The ECVC “Elderly Care Vocational Certificate” project is supported by the European Commission withing the frame of the programme Leonardo da Vinci - Transfer of Innovation. Its deployment started in October 2008 with the scope to create a system of vocational training that will provide the participants with the “Elderly Care Vocational Certificate” in the Health and Welfare educational field. The training utilises the existing e-learning curriculum developed by the LdV ECV project www.ecvleonardo.com (2005-2007) and it is supplemented with practical experience at elderly care providing centres. The ECV Certificate is a low-cost but effective qualification of “post-secondary pre-tertiary” (ISCED 4VOC) level. The project implemented a sustainable system that promotes at the local community a “learning-practicing-certification-rehabilitation» cycle for Elderly Care Vocational skills. This new educational option will empower the local communities with elderly care skills for which there are an increasing demand due to the ageing of the population all over Europe. The system consists of the “ECV e-learning software”, “Elderly Care Workers Qualification Assessment” “Learning Centres for training and practical experience in Elderly Care”, “Civic Information Centres for Elderly Care”, as well as the “Civic Observatory for Elderly Care”
